The final gate
Every entry ends with an interview - a short preliminary interview at the Selection Centre for soldiers, and the detailed deputy president’s interview at ISSB for officers. It is not a knowledge quiz: the officer across the table is checking confidence, honesty, motivation and awareness.
Questions you should expect
| Motivation | “Why do you want to join the Army?” - have a true, personal answer, not a slogan |
| Family & background | Parents’ occupations, siblings, hometown - answer calmly and exactly |
| Education | Favourite subjects, why you scored what you scored, current affairs of your field |
| Awareness | Current national events, basic Army structure (ranks, regiments, the Chief) |
| Situational | “Your friend is cheating in the exam - what do you do?” - they test your values, not your answer |
| Hobby & sports | Whatever you claim, be ready for 3–4 follow-up questions on it |
Seven rules for the room
- Rule 1: Enter with a smile, greet clearly, and wait to be seated.
- Rule 2: Sit upright - hands on thighs, no crossed arms, no fidgeting.
- Rule 3: Listen fully; if you did not understand, politely ask once.
- Rule 4: Say “I do not know, sir” cleanly instead of guessing wildly.
- Rule 5: Never contradict your own forms and self-description.
- Rule 6: Keep answers short: 2–4 sentences, then stop.
- Rule 7: Thank the officer and leave calmly - the last impression counts.
Honesty is the strategy. Interviewers cross-check your answers against every previous test. Consistency - not performance - is what gets recommended.
