Intermediate is the golden qualification for the Army - it unlocks both the soldier’s ladder and the officer’s commission. Pre-engineering students with strong marks should look first at TCC; everyone else at PMA Long Course.

Your action plan
- Officer ambition? Register for the next PMA Long Course the week it opens - seats fill fast.
- Pre-engineering with 65%+? Apply for TCC in parallel - a free NUST degree plus commission.
- Not selected for officers this cycle? Join as a soldier and apply for in-service commission later.
- Pre-medical students: watch the Medical Cadet and AFNS advertisements.
PMA or TCC - which race is yours?
Both courses commission you, but they train different officers. The PMA Long Course accepts any intermediate group and builds combat leaders - infantry, armour and artillery careers start there. The Technical Cadet Course demands FSc pre-engineering with 65%+ and sends cadets to NUST for a fully funded engineering degree before commissioning into EME, Signals and Engineers. Apply by your marks and temperament, not peer pressure - and remember both papers weight the initial test heavily, so timed practice matters from day one. Pre-medical students should track the Medical Cadet and AFNS advertisements, and if no officer door opens this cycle, the Senior Clerk entry keeps you in uniform while you retry for commission.
