Four days that decide your commission
Candidates who clear the initial test, physical and medical for officer entries receive a call letter for ISSB Gujranwala. The board assesses whether you have the officer-like qualities (OLQs) the Army looks for - leadership, teamwork, courage under pressure and clarity of thought.
- Day 1 - Screening: intelligence tests and group discussion. Screened-out candidates return home the same day with full board hospitality.
- Day 2 - Psychology: Thematic Apperception Test, Word Association, Situation Reaction and Self Description, plus the deputy president’s interview.
- Day 3 - GTO tasks: group planning, progressive group tasks, obstacle race, lecturette, individual obstacles and command task on the outdoor ground.
- Day 4 - Conference & result: every assessor discusses your file, the final conference is held, and results are announced. Recommended candidates proceed to final medical at the Military Hospital.
Central Punjab's own board
Gujranwala assesses the dense central belt of Punjab - and it is the board most easily reached in the country: the GT Road and the main rail line run through the city, so candidates from Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot or Gujrat arrive in a morning without the travel fatigue that boards in far corners impose. That accessibility cuts both ways: the batches are large, the competition inside your group is sharp, and the candidates who stand out are the ones who arrive rested instead of rattled by a last-minute dash. The city's hotels are plentiful if your family wants to wait nearby, but the board asks candidates to treat the four days as sealed - visitors add pressure, not comfort. Candidates from the Gujranwala centre walk a familiar city here; those from Lahore and Faisalabad find the shift easy. Pack the writing kit first - psychology day comes early.
Officer intakes that report to this board: PMA Long Course · Technical Cadet Course · Lady Cadet Course · DSSC Engineers.
